Activities Week Details

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE WITH 4.4 COOKERY THIS WEEK

Group 4.1: Law in Action

This week provides a fascinating insight into the Irish legal system.

  • Monday: Meet in Room 24 at St Michael’s College (9:00 am - 11:00 am).

  • Tuesday - Friday: Students will attend the Criminal Courts of Justice (CCJ) near Phoenix Park. Meet there each morning at 10:30 am.

  • Finish Times: 1:00 pm daily, except Tuesday (12:00 pm return to school for a "Care After Prison" talk, finishing at 2:15 pm)

Important Details:

  • Transport: Take the Luas to Museum; the CCJ is a 5-6 minute walk.

  • Dress Code: Smart casual (no hoodies, runners, or St Michael’s branded gear). Please dress as you would for work experience.

  • Food/Bags: Eat a substantial breakfast as there is no morning break. Avoid bringing valuables or large school bags if possible.

Group 4.2: Boxing & Self Defence

Groups 4.3 & 4.5: Work Placement

Students in these groups will be heading out into the professional world. Preparation is the key to ensuring this is a meaningful and successful experience.

Pre-Placement Checklist: Before day one, students must contact their employer to confirm:

  • Arrival Details: Where to go and who to ask for upon arrival.

  • Logistics: Start/finish times and whether a packed lunch is required.

  • Requirements: Dress code expectations and any specific equipment needed.

  • Objectives: Tasks, skills and the general scope of the week.

  • Health & Safety: Inform employers of any relevant health conditions and keep personal notes of this conversation.

Dress Code: Most placements require Smart Casual (dark trousers - no jeans, a plain smart shirt, and smart shoes - no runners). For manual or outdoor roles, jeans may be appropriate. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing a waterproof jacket.

Making the Most of the Week: Be proactive by preparing questions, observing different roles and maintaining a daily diary of tasks and skills. Please remember to request feedback and a reference when appropriate.

Share your learnings with parents each evening and always thank your employer for the opportunity!

Note: Employer Feedback Forms and insurance details are available in the 4.2 and 4.4 Google Classrooms. Please ensure feedback forms are submitted via Google Classroom Assignments.

Group 4.4: Cookery Week

  • Venue: The Boat Yard, Greystones Harbour (beside le Creperie), A63 R721

  • Dress: Non-uniform (Please arrive 10 minutes early each day).

  • Schedule:

    • Monday - Friday: 10:30 am -1:30 pm

Safe Travels: Mauritius, Austria, South Africa and Camino

This week marks the beginning of our highly anticipated international tours. To our students and staff heading to the beaches of Mauritius, the mountains of Austria, the vibrant landscapes of South Africa and the green fields of Basque Country: we wish you a safe and transformative journey!

These trips are more than just holidays; they are opportunities for cultural immersion and lifelong memories. Looking forward to hearing your stories.

A special congratulations to Mr. Doolan and the entire immersion team on their incredible achievements.

Relocating an entire mission from Tanzania to Mauritius and Reunion Island in such a short window is a remarkable feat of coordination. Reaching the €20,000 fundraising target and collecting 20 bags of supplies for the SOS Children’s Village is a testament to the hard work of all involved and the generosity of our school community.

We wish the group and all the students a safe journey as they depart this Sunday.

Slán Abhaile to St. Alban’s College

As one journey begins, another draws to a close. We wish a heartfelt Slán Abhaile to our exchange students from St. Alban’s College, South Africa. It has been an absolute pleasure having you in our classrooms and hallways over the past few weeks.

A massive thank you to our host families. Your incredible generosity and hospitality provided these students with a true "home away from home." Without your support, these exchange programmes simply wouldn't be possible.

Wishing our boys and Mr Skeehan all the best on their return leg to St Alban's.

Bon Camino!

Finally!

Looking slightly further ahead, we want to wish a Bon Camino to the group departing to walk the Camino de Santiago. It is a tough but rewarding trek.

May the road rise to meet you!

Sports Day

The combination of football, burgers and ice cream proved to be a winning formula, making for a brilliant atmosphere and plenty of smiles.

It was great to see such high energy and sporting spirit on display throughout the afternoon.

Work Placement Week (May 25th - 29th)

For those students remaining on campus while others are abroad, we have a Work Placement Week scheduled from May 25th to May 29th.

Please make sure to update the form that has been shared on the TY Noticeboard with your Work Placement Details.
