CURRICULUM
The STMC Transition Year programme is designed to provide a broad and engaging educational experience, fostering student development across four key areas: Personal Growth, Being a Learner, Civic and Community Engagement, and Career Exploration.
The programme is structured around several key components:

Core Continuity Subjects
Students maintain learning in core subjects such as English, Irish, Mathematics, Religious Education, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages (French, German, Spanish) throughout the year.
These subjects are delivered in consistent base classes.
These subjects (with the exception of PE and RE are assessed during 2 assessment weeks)

Taster / Micro-Module Rotations
A system of rotational modules, typically five to six weeks in length, allows students to sample various Leaving Certificate subjects and engage in unique TY-specific learning experiences.
TY Specific modules include Computers, Driver Theory, Film Making, Sport, Tourism, Lifeskills, Digital, Enterprise, Philosophy, Taxation to name a few.
Assessment in these modules often focuses on project-based learning and skills development rather than traditional exams.

Activities Weeks and Work Placements.
Scheduled throughout the year, these weeks are designed to provide students with unique, hands-on and immersive learning experiences that go beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Programmes and Additional Experiences
The TY programme is enriched by a wide array of other activities and initiatives, including participation in the TY Musical, the Gaisce-Bronze Award which involves community involvement, personal skill development, physical recreation and an adventure journey, various day trips, practical workshops (like First Aid, Bike Maintenance or Barista Training), guest speakers from diverse backgrounds and careers, community engagement projects (such as the Hospice Coffee Morning, Homeless Contact Work and Digital Mentors), cultural exchanges and expeditions like the Tall Ship Marine Science Voyage, the Camino Pilgrimage, exchanges with St Sebastian's, Boston or St. Alban's, Pretoria, Area 47 47 Austria and the Tanzania Immersion Trip.
