Please note that each trip has a limited capacity and participants will be selected based on the following criteria: attendance, behaviour and participation in Transition Year (TY) activities ( interview & application form for the Immersion trip). We encourage all students to apply, but not all applicants may receive their first-preference due to these limitations.
If you are selected for any trip* above you may not take a place on any other of these listed above trips (this does not include Language Deptartment Trips or the Tall Ships Expedition)
How We’ll Offer Places:
Please note that each trip has a limited capacity. Places will be allocated based on the following criteria: attendance, behaviour and participation in Transition Year (TY) class work and activities. For the Immersion Trip, the application form and interview will also form part of the selection process.
The way we are offering places is similar to how the CAO system works when applying for college courses. Students will be considered for their highest-preference trip first. If there is space available, they will be offered a place on that trip. If their first preference is full, they will then be considered for their next preference, and so on. This gives students the best possible opportunity to receive a place on one of their preferred trips.
For the trips other than the Immersion Trip, if the number of eligible applications exceeds the number of places available on a particular trip, a lottery may be held among students who meet the selection criteria.
We encourage all students to apply and carefully consider the order of their preferences. However, due to the limited number of places available, we cannot guarantee that all applicants will receive their first-preference trip.
e.g.
Immersion - Offers will be made for this trip first.
Boston - Once Immersion places are filled, we’ll make offers for Boston.
Austria - After Boston, we’ll move on to Austria.
Beijing - Next, Beijing offers
Camino - Next, we’ll offer places for Camino.
South Africa - Finally, places for SA will be offered.
Sailing - Please call into my office to discuss this trip with me
What Does This Mean for You?
If you get offered a place on your first-choice trip, that’s the trip you will go on.
If you don’t get a place on your first choice, you’ll be considered for your next preference, and so on.
The system works like this so that everyone has the best chance to go on a trip they really want, based on the spaces available.
Accepting Offers:
Once you receive an offer for a trip, you’ll need to let us know if you want to accept it.
If you accept the offer, you won’t be considered for any other trips lower down on your list of preferences.
If a place opens up for a trip you ranked higher, you might still get offered a spot later (but this is an unlikely situation).
Conditional Offers:
Please note that all trip offers are conditional. In the event of serious issues regarding behaviour, unexcused absences, or punctuality, you may be withdrawn from a trip without a refund. It is essential to maintain good conduct and attendance, as we want to ensure that the trips are enjoyable and run smoothly for everyone involved.
